The shell bone script of character West is
What is this? It is window facing west. In ancient China, or modern China too, the house door is normally facing south. There is no window on the back (north), and east. Because window is open for wild animals, and bad guys who want to enter other people's house to steal, therefore, ancient Chinese only made necessary window. When the sun rises from east, it is morning. In summer, the temperature is low in the morning; in winter, the temperature is cold. No window could keep warm inside in the winter, and Ok in the summer. When the sun sets on west, the temperature is warm in winter, and very hot in summer. To open a window on west side is a must in summer, and Ok in winter. We could reasonably assume that no window on east, but on west.
You may ask "is there window on south?", I think so but the shape is not like the above. I will discuss the topic in another post.
